I was needing a little extra sweetness in my life and OH MAN did this hit the spot!
It tastes like apple pie, except super healthy!
I added Spirulina which doesn’t taste great alone but added to a smoothie like this, you can’t taste it, it makes the smoothie a really fun green color, and it packs a nutritional punch! Spirulina is packed with B vitamins, antioxidants, and is incredibly high in protein.
Since I eat my highest amount of protein in the morning, it’s a perfect addition to my smoothie! It’s also packed with your Omegas, specifically Omega 3, and Iron. On top of that, it is great for detoxing the body and boosting the immune system because it is high in Chlorophyll.
If you don’t have access to Spirulina, don’t worry, this smoothie is awesome without it too, I just like the added benefits of adding the Spirulina.
It’s a beauty, isn’t it? Try this recipe and tell me what you think.
- 1 cup of almond milk
- 2 handfuls of green kale or spinach
- 1 scoop Plain Protein Powder
- 1 tsp Spirulina Powder (optional)
- 1 cubed apple (any kind…my favorite is fuji or honeycrisp)
- 1 frozen banana, sliced
- 1 tablespoon almond butter
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- Dash of nutmeg
Top with chopped apple and nuts if desired.
I especially love this smoothie in the Fall, but today I was feelin it!
Here is a picture of it without the Spirulina…..still tasted amazing, just not the pretty color that Spirulina gives it.
