I shared this post on Instagram and I wanted to make sure and share it with you also.
So this, my friends, is evidence of Emotional Eating.
Yep! Even Health Coaches sometimes emotionally eat. I had a really rough day last week. I worked through a lot of my emotions via journaling and meditation and I was just exhausted, sad and I felt alone.
I decided that I really wanted to add some sweetness to my life and in that moment I got up off the couch, went to Whole Foods and grabbed this amazing little gem.
Coolhaus Ice Cream helped me in that moment. I told myself all the way to the store that I was going to get a pint and eat THE WHOLE THING!
And guess what?
I felt amazing about it!
No guilt. Just pure joy. I mean come on! Chocolate Molten Cake! It was incredible! Towards the end, my tummy wasn’t super happy with me but my mood actually did feel better.
In the past, I would have been hard on myself and felt gross or guilty but I didn’t.
What was the difference? I made the conscious decision.
For the most part, I nourish my body with great food and in this moment, my body needed a different kind of nourishment.
I truly believe that Ice Cream or Cake (or in this case 2 in 1. YEAH!) have a place in this world. Treats can be Nourishing to the soul.
It’s okay to indulge. It’s okay to eat an entire pint once in a while!
Just do it consciously.
Here are 2 things that help me determine if I give into Emotional Eating:
1. Check your motivation. Are you ignoring a problem by eating instead? Have you tended to your emotions and allowed your body to feel them? Try journaling in this moment or call a good friend that can help you work through any issues (pick someone that will hold the space for you to share, and that will help you work through something. Not someone who will just agree with everything you say or get pissed off with you.)
2. H.A.L.T. I ask myself, am I Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired? Ask yourself what you need in that moment. What will truly tend to one of those feelings?
2. Check in and see what your body is actually craving. Sometimes we think we are having an intense craving, but often if we check in with our body we may actually need something else (see above about checking your motivation). Check out this cravings worksheet that helps you understand the 8 reasons for cravings and how to determine what your body really needs.
AND THEN if you just want ice cream because it feels good in your body, do it!!
Life is messy sometimes. Embrace the messiness and love yourself through it.
It’s not about perfection. It’s about progress and growth.
The imperfection is what makes this life perfect. Embrace it and embrace your true needs. And to do that, you have to be clued into what your true needs are. This means you need to be aware. You need to listen to your body.
Okay, whew! I just wanted to share that with you, because this is life and yes, I’m a Health Coach, but that doesn’t make me immune to the occasional emotional eating.
Thanks to CoolHaus for making an ice cream that has real food ingredients and adding some sweetness to my life the other night. (It’s still not a health food, but hey, if I’m gonna splurge, I go for the stuff with the best ingredients possible….no artificial stuff!)
Have an amazing week! Mine turned around after I took care of that pint. ha!
